Romance writer Kate Walker is beginning to feel like her life is going nowhere. She needs a spark. She's still getting over her own bad romance five years ago, and churning out stories with happy endings she's no longer sure she believes in. When her Iowa hometown is hit hard by a tornado, Kate takes a few weeks off work to help her family and friends with their rebuilding projects.

Colton Greene's NFL career came to a halt with one bad play, and now he's floundering to know what to do with his life. He's under contract for a book about his upbringing, but he's hesitant to write because of his painful experiences growing up in the foster system and the memory block from the night his parents died. Deciding to tag along with his friend Logan on a trip to Iowa, Colton sees a real community in action in Maple Valley, and throws himself into helping the town recover. He also finds Logan's sister Kate charmingly reserved and equal to the task of helping him with his autobiography.

Knowing absolutely nothing about football, Kate knows writing with Colton is her chance to turn her life around. With the proceeds from this book she could finally get involved in her mother's foundation in Africa the way she's been longing to do. Colton's big personality begins making its way around the walls Kate has so carefully constructed, and soon hope for more than her writing career begins to blossom in her heart.

With opportunities being presented all around him, Colton feels restless. His agent is pushing him to go into sports broadcasting, but Colton knows that is not going to be a fit with his anxiety in front of cameras. Coaching doesn't call to him, either. But a Maple Valley teenager, gifted in football and also being raised by a foster family, tugs Colton's heart in ways he can't explain. He also begins to grow increasingly uneasy about finishing and releasing the book with Kate, but will she understand the new direction his life is taking? Can he find peace with his past and a purpose for the future?

I really enjoy Melissa Tagg's stories. She has an informal, relatable writing style that makes you feel like you're talking with your best friend while you fly through the pages. I'd recommend her books for anyone who likes clean contemporary stories which draw you in and make you forget about things like sleep while you're in the middle of them.

I usually don't read contemporary romance but I've been following the author on social media and such for awhile and really enjoyed how much she loved her characters. So I bought book 1. And loved it.

Seriously. The characters are all great, and I loved Maple Valley and its close knit community. The romance is killer. I loved the interactions between Kate and Colton. They're seriously adorable. And I loved getting to meet the Walker family. Safe to say that Ms Tagg has sufficiently enticed me to continue the series.

Great messages mixed in but never too heavy with the faith element. I really enjoyed how effortlessly it was mixed in.

Highly recommended. I read this book in one day and then went after the prequel novella. )

Also, thanks, Ms Tagg, for raising my already ridiculously high expectations for men. P
Fantastic! This was a sweet surprise!
"From the Start" tells the story of Kate Walker and Colton Greene, both who are trying to find themselves after a season of heartbreak and lost dreams. Because sometimes life can take a turn we do not expect.
This is what we see in this book many characters facing the unexpected and finding community to face the challenges that appear each day.
This community is depicted in the form of a city that sticks together, Maple Valley, but also in the form a specific individual blessing another by being present to the other when they most need it.
I expected Kate to be a strong and mature character. However what caught me by surprise was how graceful she was. With a tender heart that has been hurt but is learning to heal and open up again.
And so Melissa Tagg pleasantly and with care takes us through these characters journey, making us starve to be a part of rebuilding a community and participating in special events that can seem silly but are so particular to a place that they resemble the meaning of HOME all over.
And because of this Colton Greene is finally able to feel what it is like to have a normal life and live fully.

I cannot wait for the next books of this dear family that won a place in my heart.
I read this book in 2 days. It was so good, that I found myself reading in the wee hours of the morning. I finally convinced myself that I should allow myself another day to enjoy the book and to go to sleep. I put the book down, and tried for a few minutes to sleep (this was about 300 am), and absolutely could not get my mind off of the characters in the story. I knew I had no other choice but to go back to my reading. I finally finished it a couple hours later and fell asleep just after 500 am. When I finished it, I told my sleeping husband that it was the best book I've ever read. I LOVED THIS BOOK and I want everyone to read it! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would without hesitation. I should also say, I don't give out 5 stars very often.

I do recommend reading the free novella prequel "Three Little Words" first. From the Start does stand alone and you will still love it if you don't read the prequel, but it does a great job introducing the characters and is also a wonderful 5 star story. It was at that point I fell in love with Maple Valley, the awesome little town these stories take place in. Can I move there?

I don't want to give anything away in the book, so please, take my advice and read this book. You won't regret it!!! The only negative thing I can say is that you and I both have to wait until Spring 2016 for the next book in the series.

I did not receive this book free (as I often get free ones in exchange for my book reviews). I paid for it and it was worth every single dollar.
